BRIDGET HERIZ: EMOTIONAL WORKS DEPICTING JOY, FEAR, STILLNESS, MOVEMENT, AGITATION AND EXCITEMENT

"Her exceptional formal invention has allowed her to move beyond mere representation into producing both two- and three-dimensional objects filled with emotions: joy, fear, stillness, movement, agitation and excitement" (Derrick Morris – former President and Fellow, Royal British Society of Sculptors. Writing about Bridget Heriz, currently part of FESTIVAL at Houghton Hall (ends September 2019)

BRUER TIDMAN IN THE STABLES AT HOUGHTON HALL

The Royal College of Art was the starting point for Brüer Tidman's long career as a figurative painter, with references to earlier art movements effortlessly rendered in his own rich visual language. One of the three notable Yarmouth based artists we are showcasing this year in FESTIVAL 2019.

THE CUTTING EDGE - JONI SMITH AND RUTH HOWES MAP OUT THEIR SUBJECTS BY HAND

We are showcasing the work of artists who employ paper cutting at the core of their practice. Both are Norwich based. Joni Smith bases her work on mapping and topography and has produced intricate cut town scapes of Wells, King's Lynn as well as Italy and Spain incorporating knotted ropes. Ruth Howes cuts paper plans of buildings - Holkham and Houghton Halls feature strongly and her cut schematic of the Houses of Parliament features paper figures jumping off the terrace into the Thames.

COME VISIT THE FANTASTIC HENRY MOORE ALONG WITH OUR LATEST POP-UP EXHIBITION 'FESTIVAL'

The stable doors will be open today from 11am until 5pm (last entry to Houghton Hall estate 4pm). Alongside the fantastic Henry Moore at Houghton Hall exhibition, which is now open in the house, garden and park, FESTIVAL, our exhibition of art and craft from 25+ leading artists and crafts people in the stables will mirror the main exhibition's opening hours. The work on display references that brief flowering during the Festival of Britain, when Moore and his contemporaries put forward their vision  for visual art in re-shaping Britain after WWII. For the first time we have a few smaller-scale sculptures located outside in the walled garden. So give yourselves plenty of time to see everything! For those with an inexhaustible appetite for contemporary art, there will be the added bonus of the permanent collection.
