STEVE GORE-ROWE (MAKEFIXDO)
With a background in Graphic Design, Steve now concentrates his creativity on making decorative and functional interior pieces using new and used materials. Based in West Norfolk, he applies combinations of modern and traditional workshop skills to create original designs which explore contrasting materials and surface finishes.
Laura Fletcher offers her first collection of woven and striped cushions,throws and accessories. All feature beautiful stripe combinations – this love of stripes, colour and texture runs through all of Laura’s work. All products are designed and made in Suffolk and the eastern region of the UK using contemporary British fabrics.
CAROLYN BROOKES DAVIES
Carolyn graduated from the Royal College of Art in1982. After a twenty-five year career in London as a fashion designer she moved to North Norfolk in 2003. Carolyn’s background in sculpture, her love of natural form and the close proximity of the beach led her to indulge a childhood interest in shell collecting.
Shells with their accidental beauty, subtle colours, variety in shape and texture appealed to her. Their endless ornamental possibilities have inspired her recent shell work of elaborately decorative objects, which are as exquisitely beautiful, intricate and unique as the shells themselves.
With a BSc in Environmental Science and involvement in direct action opposing the destruction of ancient forests and cultures, it is important to Tim that all his work is made from locally sourced wood.
Entirely self taught through trial (and often painful error) he strives to produce elegant, functional pieces with graceful uncluttered lines, for the kitchen and table. par-avion is a Norfolk-based furniture and lighting design partnership consisting of Simon and Monica Cass. With diverse backgrounds spanning architecture, interiors, lighting and furniture, their work is evocative of a carefully crafted process that mixes traditional craft and modern styling. Mavy would be taken into local mills as a girl at weekends and holidays in Gateshead. Her earliest memories are of clattering shuttles and machinery, mingled with smells of yarns and oil. Weaving became embedded in her life from an early age. 40 years on and following a move to Aylsham, Mavy has developed a tartan based on predominant colours of the locality – now adopted by the Town Council this tartan is now registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Charlotte is a lighting designer and artist who has been working with lighting since 1990, designing bespoke luminaires for private and corporate clients as well as manufacturing small batch runs for selective retail outlets. Nicola is based in Norwich and her background is, for the most part, 3D practices, working in a broad range of materials. She uses lots of textile processes, casting, mould making, modelling, glass, metals, foams and lots of digital processes too. Nicola makes limited editions pieces and does take on commissions. With an appreciation of the natural world and love of drawing Claire has been inspired to study insects and reproduce these as tiny embroideries on felt. She enjoys the humour in producing insects that are realistic and presenting them as traditional entomological collections. Her work is a celebration of insects some of which are ironically described as ‘pests’.
RICHINGS AND GREETHAM
RichingsGreetham is inspired by the skill and care of traditional makers, combining integrity and honesty with a utilitarian eye for detail. Designed in Norfolk and developed for simplicity and function. Everything follows the principles of good design, both practical and highly aesthetic.
Sue's traditional and contemporary baskets are made from home using Somerset willow or willow grown here in Kings Cliffe, Norfolk. Her baskets are tough, lightweight and long lasting making them an excellent alternative to the plastic bag and with a vast array of designs there are plenty of styles to choose from. Toby Winteringham is a furniture designer and maker based in King’s Lynn. His work encompasses a variety of styles from elegantly simple statements to bold marquetry decoration.
He combines original design ideas with innovative construction to produce striking pieces for any setting.
He says: ‘To me design is like poetry: the stripping away of all unnecessary detail in order to leave an object in its purest form.’
Blott Kerr-Wilson is an international sea shell artist. Ingrid Thomas, in the book The Shell, wrote “Kerr-Wilson is the most innovative shell artist working today.” Blott set off at full steam on her shell career in 1993 after winning a design competition in The World of Interiors magazine. Since then she has created works both privately and publicly worldwide.
Daniel is a Norfolk based stone carver and letter cutter, is acclaimed for his memorials, commemorative plaques and ground-breaking conceptual sculptures.
